Here are just some of the reviews our authors have received.
I started and finished this book in one day, a great read. Pam has researched the history of Beesthorpe Hall well and has written a gripping story, I couldn't put it down and enjoyed it tremendously. I hope that Pam will write further books. A fantastic first book that is sure to hold the reader right to the last page.
A historical novel. I know what you are thinking, it will be dry and boring but nothing could be further from the truth. This novel has everything for everybody. Set in the late eighteenth century it covers friendship, loyalty, betrayal and treachery with a dose of racism and prejudice thrown in. Giving an insight into the lives of the people living during this time it pulls no punches, if you will pardon the pun. If you love boxing you will love the descriptive fight scenes giving you the feeling that you are at ringside shouting for the hero. You will also enjoy the description of London in the eighteenth century with full details of the sensual pleasures enjoyed by both the society of the time and the lowest of the low. To sum the book up in a few words it is about a hero who overcomes prejudice and betrayal guided by his own honesty and integrity. You will love some of the characters and hate others but you will love the book.
Having never been a fan of boxing or novels set in the 18th century so I was surprised how this particular tale captured my imagination. From start to finish I felt transported back to a chaotic time where fighting rules had only just been introduced. But this book is about more than boxing. It visits the seamy side of the poor and the landed gentry in vivid detail. You can sense the darkness of those foreboding times - not only of the conditions but also the characters, lightened by frequent escapades with ladies of easy virtue. Our hero seems strangely out of place, too good for this place. Will we learn of his existence beyond this story in a future volume? I sincerely hope so.
Excellent read, haven't been able to put it down since it arrived
A good reminder that the outward facade often covers a multitude of hidden truths some of which are horrendous and others soul searching.
A Candle for Lucifer seeks and succeeds in exposing the hypocrisy in not only the Church of England, but Christianity and religions in general. Included and cleverly disguised are local and national government, the police and judiciary, business and so on. The practice of professing standards and beliefs, contrary to their actual behaviour come across in the novel. Historically this has always been the case. Things are never what they seem, but we are blind or reluctant to recognise such issues. The novel brings to life grave moral concerns (drugs, prostitution, police corruption and much more) in a brilliant story line which leaps from crisis to crisis, leaving the reader in a state of tension and anxiety - a real page turner. There is plenty of scope for film or television drama. This is an intelligent, superbly written and boldly executed novel. A MUST READ!
